Employee surveys are seen as a crucial management tool - but there is a fine line between acceptance and survey fatigue. Tina Fischer examines in the Handelszeitung (HZ) the reasons why many surveys today do not achieve their goal and how companies can find their way back to truly meaningful feedback. She is joined by Dr. Kathrin Neumüller, Co-Managing Director of ValueQuest, as an expert in modern feedback processes.
Whether a small SME or an international corporation - surveys on employee satisfaction and the mood within the team are ubiquitous and popular. However, the willingness to participate is decreasing. The reason for this is that people are constantly being asked to rate themselves in everyday life - be it from a hotel mattress or when shopping online. "At some point, you've simply had enough," says HR expert Matthias Mölleney. Feedback is generally a sign of appreciation as long as it has consequences. But this is precisely where many Swiss companies fall short: Many surveys have no consequences or have methodological flaws. The result is a data graveyard - instead of real change. The Handelszeitung article entitled "Click, rate, ignore - team building by mouse click in the modern working world" is dedicated to this topic.
Employee surveys are not a sure-fire success
In the HZ article, Dr. Kathrin Neumüller, Co-Managing Director of ValueQuest, speaks as an expert on modern feedback processes. She emphasizes: "Feedback must not become an end in itself. The decisive factor is the willingness of companies to derive concrete measures from it. Surveys can only be taken seriously as a management tool that creates trust if they lead to visible action."
Surveys are not a sure-fire success. They are only effective if they are understood as part of a practiced feedback culture - not as an isolated measure or image cultivation. The article makes it clear that companies need to rethink: away from simply collecting data and towards a serious dialog with their employees.
