Occupational health management (OHM) – why it is so important

Employers often face the challenge of sustainably improving physical and mental health in the workplace. More and more companies in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria are therefore investing in their occupational health management (OHM) and thus in the health of their workforce. This is no coincidence, as healthy employees have fewer absences and are more productive. In Switzerland, around 30% of the working population feels emotionally exhausted, which costs Swiss companies CHF 6.5 billion annually.

Without a structured and systematic survey on workplace stress, companies are flying blind. Our occupational health management survey creates transparency regarding mental strain, stress, health, and well-being in the workplace.

Objectives and benefits of the health survey

Employee surveys focusing on occupational health management (OHM) not only comply with legal requirements, but also show what you can do to promote the well-being and resilience of your employees.

Our health survey identifies excessive stress and burnout risks at an early stage in order to reduce absenteeism and healthcare costs and increase employee motivation and retention. The ValueQuest survey also provides strategically important health indicators for your occupational health management. Comparative data and benchmarks in Switzerland help to identify best practices and plan targeted measures.

A health survey shows how stress, overload, overtime, or emotional exhaustion affect employee productivity and retention. Structured questions, anonymous answers, and meaningful results provide a clear picture of mental health in your company.

The survey is therefore a strategic lever for your occupational health management (OHM) and helps to further develop leadership, cooperation, and health culture in a targeted manner.

Employers' duty of care under Swiss labor law

Occupational health management (OHM) is more than just a voluntary option—it is a legal obligation. As an employer in Switzerland, you are bound by the Swiss Code of Obligations (CO, Art. 328) to exercise due care: you must protect the physical and mental health of your employees. In addition, the Labor Act (ArG, Art. 6) and the Accident Insurance Act (UVG) require you to take measures to protect against psychosocial risks such as stress, burnout, and bullying.

Our health survey is the ideal tool for systematically meeting these legal requirements. Not only does it provide you with the necessary data for assessing psychological stress, it also helps you to take preventive measures and align your organization with ISO 45003. With our survey, you go beyond mere compliance requirements and create a culture of health that sustainably strengthens motivation, productivity, and loyalty.

Definition: What exactly is occupational health management (OHM)?

Occupational health management refers to the systematic and holistic approach taken by companies to maintain and promote the long-term physical and mental health of their employees. This includes, in particular, the analysis and prevention of sources of stress and strain in the workplace. The aim is to create a healthy and performance-enhancing working environment.

Modern occupational health management (OHM) includes, among other things:

• Measuring mental stress, for example, with the help of an employee survey on mental health or specific stress analyses

• Analysis of resources at employee and team level (e.g., emotional support, leadership, time for relaxation, trust in leadership)

• Prevention of mental illness and burnout

• Improving work-life balance and employee well-being

• Collection of relevant health indicators and monitoring by HR

• Initiatives to strengthen resilience and promote a health-oriented corporate culture

• Health protection in accordance with legal requirements and standards such as ISO 45003

ValueQuest supports you throughout the entire process of conducting a workplace health promotion survey. From defining objectives and planning to implementation, analysis, and implementation of measures , we take the pressure off you every step of the way. Our approach is systematic and targeted in order to achieve a measurably greater impact.

In a joint workshop, we define the objectives, target groups, and schedule for the survey.

Our health survey has a modular structure. Optional topics such as work-life balance, stress management, burnout, resilience, fairness, and appreciation, as well as dealing with stress, can be selected. Companies can also add their own specific questions relating to health.

We evaluate your survey not only by individual teams and units, but also by function, age, seniority, workload, and location.

We provide you not only with figures, but also with a detailed analysis of risks and potential. We present the results in workshops and work with you to develop appropriate measures.

Our mental health benchmark pool allows you to compare your company's stress and resilience levels with other organizations in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. This enables you to identify best practices in dealing with mental health and derive targeted improvements.
